Making Hygge Moves

The beautiful thing about Hygge is the consistent warmth we receive by doing things that we love. For some it might be enjoying a cup of tea each night before bed. For others it might be their Friday night cheat meal when they eat a whole pint of Ben and Jerry's! Maybe its just sitting by the fire in your living room after a long day at work - BUT what do you do when you can't have these routine rituals?

Recently I have hit a wall with this. I am quite literally and physically making Hygge Moves - in good and bad ways. I am packing up and moving off to a new apartment! Sure its exciting (especially since I can redesign my living spaces and start fresh), but it can also be disruptive to my routine. No more cozy couch or pillows for a whole two weeks. I won't have any cooking supplies or records to play. My collection of candles will leave me!

So how do I create a cozy feeling without my normal cozy? I am working to appreciate the little joys, like eating at my favorite restaurants before I leave the town. I am setting aside a few books to read in solitude as I sleep for a few nights on my air mattress. Finally, I will have time to enjoy these books with no distractions! Maybe I will get caught up on some podcasts and spend sometimes outdoors instead of my empty apartment. I even asked my childhood best friend to come down and help me move. Sure it isn't perfect, but part of Hygge "thought" is finding the little joys in the chaos. What is even more important and rewarding is finding them together. Cheers to embracing change and seeing the silver linings of every situation! Hygge is all around us when we allow ourselves to believe it.
