Essentialism and Hygge

I recently just finished the book "Essentialism" by Greg McKeown - what a fantastic book! If you are a fan of Hygge then I'd imagine you'd be a fan of the concept of Essentialism or the "disciplined pursuit of less." Essentialism can be thought of as looking at your life and asking the question: "What is truly essential?" What creates value in your life? Becoming an Essentialist means saying "no" to things that are not essential. It means putting your family and loved ones close and focusing on the aspects of your job that you love. It means creating space for you to be your best self. Essentialism goes hand and hand with the Hygge concept of coziness and wellness.

What I like about Essentialism is that it differs from true Minimalism, although it can be classified as a form of Minimalism. Essentialism in my mind is a mindset mantra that allows us to achieve more by doing less. It allows us to live a life of significance versus a life of "success" that has no real meaning. As Greg put it, "Instead of asking, 'What do I have to give up?; they (Essentialists) ask: 'What do I want to go big on?" One puts their focus on quality over quantity.

Say you like cooking a big Sunday breakfast for your friends or family (or even just yourself!) and it brings much joy to your life. Reserve this sacred space for you and say "no" to any other conflicts that may arise.

I recommend diving deeper and purchasing a copy of "Essentialism" for yourself:
